SAFE are delighted to re-open Pattern Changing referrals, this is thanks to two small grants and a larger grant from the PCC. We currently have places on a course running in September on a Wednesday evening and two further courses running in January.
Please use the form attached and note we have changed our secure email system from CJSM to Switch/egress;
Our new referral email address is [email protected], we only accept emails to this address through switch/egress.
We are requesting funding for Pattern Changing courses.
These courses are delivered by SAFE to local women who have been in an abusive relationship. The purpose of this educational course is to break the cycle of abuse and to instil self-confidence, self-esteem and self-belief within the participating women. The courses are led by a team of trained facilitators and consist of two hour sessions over 14 consecutive weeks with 14 women attending each course. Some courses are run in the evenings to widen attendance. SAFE provides the course and materials free of charge. It also offers free child care provision when possible from our specialist children's workers and transport to the course venues is subsidised where needed. The courses are unique in their ability to significantly change the lives of not only the individuals who participate, but also their children who have hitherto been dysfunctional within their own relationships. We help women to understand the effects of abuse on the whole family and to become aware of existing patterns of behaviour. We also provide them with techniques to help them to identify for themselves new, healthier patterns of behaviour.
The courses have gained a high reputation, receive very positive feedback and we have an on-going waiting list for them.
“It has made me a better person, I like myself and enjoy my life and not feeling guilty”
“Made me realise that I am not alone. I can now see the patterns of all my abusive relationships and understand how and why I got into them”
"It is a life changing course and gives hope for the future"
"I hope many other women who have suffered domestic violence get the opportunity to do this course, it will bring a completely new and positive outlook on life and they will value themselves as an equal to all other human beings"
SAFE are approaching their supporters, such as you, to help fund our ongoing provision of Pattern Changing. These life-changing courses are already up and running. We have several people on a waiting list for courses we hope to fund and run in January 2016 and beyond. The total cost to run each course is approximately £6,000 - that is less than £500 per participant.

Description
Pattern Changing is a course for women who are, or who have been, in an abusive relationship. The purpose of the course is to break the cycle of abuse and instil self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth within the women by focussing on the woman herself and her own power to change the course of her life.
The goal is for the woman to understand the problems of abuse for the entire family, to become aware of patterns of behaviour and to learn techniques for developing healthier patterns of their own choosing. It strives to break the patterns of behaviour which lead to returning to the abusive partner or entering into another abusive relationship.
SAFE Pattern Changing courses provide a specialist and supportive environment which enables participants to feel secure and able to realise the extent of the abuse that they have experienced. Through different techniques SAFE help participants deal with this realisation so that they can move on and develop a more positive outlook for the future for both themselves and their family.
Course Length: The course runs for 13 weeks and each session is 2.5 hrs long.
Number of Attendees: The maximum number of participants per course is 14.
Outcomes
Most women who complete the course say they feel stronger and more positive. They can hold their heads up high and their general attitude about themselves and life is greatly improved. They gain the confidence to go on to further their life skills to enable them to reach their potential and enjoy life as well as a reduced likelihood of future abusive relationships. They have an increased awareness and understanding of domestic violence and abuse and its impact on children.
