Stop Abuse For Everyone was formerly Exeter Women's Aid.
After 33 years of working to end domestic violence and abuse under the name of Exeter Women's Aid in November 2009 the charity changed its name to –
This new identity better reflects the work we do.
Exeter:-
- Although our Refuge is located in Exeter we have always accepted women referred to us from all over the UK
- For more than a decade our Outreach workers have been working in East and Mid-Devon and we now have several specialist services for Children and Young People in these areas
- We have Independent Domestic Violence Advisors for the Exeter, Mid and East Devon areas.
Women:-
- Although we continue to work predominantly with women we now have the potential to move towards a more holistic approach of supporting the wider family
- We now offer a service for male victims
- Much of our preventative work with young people includes boys and young men
A survey of our service users showed that our old name did not indicate the nature of the work that we do. The survey also showed that including the words domestic violence in any new name was considered stigmatising and that our services were associated with safety and so we sought a new name to reflect this.
We hope that after working with us for so long you will soon become accustomed to our new name in the knowledge that our reputation, our expertise and the quality of our ever-expanding services will continue.
