Every man has the right to feel safe

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone.

Have you ever felt any of the following?

  • Isolated, controlled or humiliated.
  • Confusion about why a person who loves you, can treat you this way.
  • Depressed.
  • Anxious about how that person will react to things.
  • Threatened by that person's behaviour.
  • Worried about the repercussions if you leave. You could be worried about losing contact with children or becoming homeless.
  • Isolation from friends and family. Sometimes this is from direct actions of your partner or because you are worried you won't be taken seriously if you tell anyone about the abuse.

All of the above indicate that you may be experiencing domestic abuse and this treatment is not acceptable.

Domestic abuse is the misuse of power and control by one adult over another adult person within the context of a close personal relationship. Abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or financial.

Anyone can experience domestic violence - it can happen in all kinds of relationships, regardless of age, race, sex, sexuality, disability, wealth, gender identity and lifestyle. It is rarely a one-off event. Physical and sexual abuse tends to get more severe and happen more often over time.
